Science is the understanding of the world
and how everything in it works. |
|
To gain this understanding, to DO science, we follow the:
CYCLE OF SCIENTIFIC THINKING
The Cycle of Scientific Thinking represents the process of questioning phenomenon, constructing falsifiable hypotheses, developing a procedure to test ideas, and evaluating conclusions. You'll notice the arrows in the graphic go in both directions to represent the flexibility of this model. Don't limit your search for knowledge! Trust your own inquisitiveness.
Here are brief descriptions of the possible steps when doing science:

Fields of Science
The science process can be applied to whatever topic or interest you may have. This could range from how to best make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to how can a cheetah can run 75mph or why is California prone to earthquakes.
This is why we have various fields of science. This graphic shows but a few of the fields a scientist can belong to. Furthermore, these fields are not always split easily between Life and Physical Sciences. All fields are interrelated and many fields integrate concepts from various areas all in the name of solving problems and gaining knowledge about the world. |
BIOLOGY
|
A science that deals with living things and their relationships, distribution, and behavior
|
Our study of biology includes all areas of life, from microscopic DNA to Earth's biosphere. We will understand how life is possible as well as how all life is interconnected. Our learning is guided by the four life science disciplinary core ideas from the Next Generation Science Standards:
